If the Minnesota Vikings miss the playoffs again this season, it could result in the team parting ways with longtime head coach Mike Zimmer in 2022.

This is year is the first of three left on the current contract of Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer. Despite all of the money in Zimmer’s contract being fully guaranteed, the Vikings could still look to move on from their longtime head coach if the team misses the playoffs again this season.

After leading Minnesota to a pair of NFC North titles in his first four years with the franchise, the team has only made one appearance in the playoffs during their last three seasons with Zimmer as their head coach. And with the Vikings starting the current campaign with a 1-3 record, the chances of missing out on the postseason again this year seem fairly high.

If Minnesota were to move on from Zimmer in 2022, there are several current members of the team’s coaching staff that could potentially take over as the new head coach of the Vikings including Klint Kubiak, Andre Patterson, or even Adam Zimmer.

But aside from the internal candidates, who are some of the options from outside of the organization that Minnesota should already be thinking about as their possible new head coach if needed next year?
