Mike McDaniel

Current Role: Offensive Coordinator, San Francisco 49ers

At 38-years-old, Mike McDaniel is the mold that seems to be the trend around the league when it comes to hiring new head coaches.

Not only is McDaniel a young coach with an offensive background, but he’s spent his time in the league on coaching staffs that have featured some of the top current head coaches around the NFL including Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, and Matt LeFleur.

Hiring McDaniel would be something that could interest the Vikings because it would allow them to essentially run the same offensive scheme that they’ve been using since Gary Kubiak arrived in 2019. Minnesota already has the players in place to run the offense well, so they wouldn’t need a complete roster overhaul if they brought in someone like McDaniel.

McDaniel could also be someone the Vikings would consider if they wanted to keep Kirk Cousins around for a few more seasons. Cousins and the current 49ers offensive coordinator spent two years working together in 2012 and 2013 when both were members of the Washington Football Team.
