Bashaud Breeland – CB

There was a great sense of intrigue when the Minnesota Vikings picked up Bashaud Breeland late in free agency. The cornerback performed well overall during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs and hopes were high that he could do something similar in Mike Zimmer’s scheme.

Sadly, things haven’t gone according to plan for Breeland so far.

His suspect ability in coverage and lack of tackling prowess has seen him flatter to deceive more often than not, with the player giving up 23 receptions from 30 targets over the first five games of the season.

The Vikings haven’t used Cam Dantzler that much in 2021. Something of a surprise considering how encouraging his play was as a rookie.

Dantzler was inactive on Sunday against the Lions after a positive COVID-19 test. There are also rumors circling about another team potentially coming in with a trade offer before the deadline.

This would be a drastic move from the Vikings, and if Breeland continues to struggle, getting rid of Dantzler even if he isn’t currently in Zimmer’s good graces would be a mistake.

After all, the Jeff Gladney pick didn’t exactly pan out, and Minnesota doesn’t want to spend another offseason trying to find the right formula at the cornerback spot.
