What were some big takeaways from the performance of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins against the Detroit Lions?

It wasn’t pretty. But the Minnesota Vikings and quarterback Kirk Cousins saved their season with a last-gasp win over the Detroit Lions at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The result was more important than the performance. And it’s about time a Vikings kicker came through when it mattered most as Greg Joseph’s 54-yard field goal snatched victory from the jaws of defeat to get Mike Zimmer’s men to 2-3.

This keeps Minnesota alive, at the very least.

There are some things the team needs to clean up as a whole, but the Vikings can go into their Week 6 contest at the Carolina Panthers with a big opportunity against an organization that’s lost two-in-a-row after racking up three straight successes to open the campaign.

Cousins will be integral as always. But what were the key takeaways from the signal-caller’s performance against the Lions?

Cousins’ bizarre celebration with Zimmer

We’ll get to Cousins’ production on the field later. However, one has to start with the bizarre and perhaps awkward celebration between the quarterback and head coach Mike Zimmer.

The pair were caught shoving and shouting at each other after Joseph nailed his field goal, which was either passion or frustration boiling over within the thrill of victory.

As stated previously, this result probably saves Minnesota’s season, at least for now.

There is still much work to be done. But judging by the way Cousins and Zimmer reacted to the successful kick, the relief was there for all to see.
