Bashaud Breeland – CB

Bashaud Breeland was a signing the Vikings made back in June to strengthen their cornerback group. He was a veteran with a knack for making interceptions and the thought was he would compete with Cam Dantzler to be the starting cornerback opposite Patrick Peterson.

Breeland won that job or maybe Dantzler just lost it, as he descended way down the depth chart for reasons that haven’t quite been fully explained by Mike Zimmer and his staff. While Breeland may have earned that job in camp, he certainly deserves to lose it for how he’s played through the first five games.

Breeland has been all around awful. The dude can’t cover anyone, can’t tackle, and when he does give up a big play he is suddenly “injured” and has to be helped off the field. He has been one of the lowest-ranked cornerbacks in the NFL by PFF and doesn’t appear to be getting any better.

To make matters worse, Breeland continues to get in beefs with Vikings’ fans on Twitter after the games, telling them to commit crude acts to his frontal appendages among other things.

Despite his horrible play, and poor decisions on social media, Mike Zimmer continues to roll Breeland out there. That is a knock on Zimmer and why he does this makes no sense.

Granted, Cam Dantzler was on the Reserve/COVID-19 list in Week 5, but anyone would be a better option, and it’s beyond time for Kris Boyd or Harrison Hand to get a shot.
