Current Team: Indianapolis Colts

On Monday, the Vikings announced their decision to place cornerback Patrick Peterson on injured reserve after he suffered a hamstring injury in the team’s Week 6 win over the Panthers.

So Minnesota will now be without their No. 1 corner until at least Week 11 when they take on the Green Bay Packers inside U.S. Bank Stadium.

The Vikings could turn to free agency to see if there are any cornerbacks worth bringing in to help fill the void left by Peterson. But Minnesota could also attempt to make a trade for someone in current Colts corner Xavier Rhodes who is very familiar with the defense Mike Zimmer likes to run.

Rhodes isn’t playing as well this season as he was for Indianapolis in 2020, but he can still provide value for the Vikings if they were to bring him back. In addition to his familiarity with Zimmer’s scheme, he is an excellent tackler, which isn’t something that can’t really be said about Bashaud Breeland or Cam Dantzler this year.

Trading for Rhodes might also allow Peterson to not feel like he has to rush back to the field and risk the possibility of re-injuring his hamstring.

Zimmer always says he can never have enough cornerbacks on his roster, so why not bring someone back that is easily one of the best he’s ever coached from the position group?
