Vikings Draft 2022: Seven-round bye week mock draft
By Dean Jones
Second Round
DeMarvion Overshown – LB (Texas)
The Vikings have relatively good options across the linebacker unit led by All-Pro Eric Kendricks. They also have high hopes for Chazz Surratt to become a key part of the rotation eventually, even if he is being brought along slowly by the coaching staff.
Nick Vigil is a free agent in 2022 and the future of Anthony Barr is also uncertain. So adding another talented young prospect to the second level is a solid option for the Vikings early on Day 2.
DeMarvion Overshown is incredibly raw, but his athleticism is off the charts. The Texas defender has come into his own this season, and although there are still some elements of his game that need work, the potential once he gets to the next level cannot be ignored.
Overshown has already racked up 56 tackles, four tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks through seven games, which is a huge upturn in production at just the right time for the player. His long frame and explosiveness could wreak havoc and prospects like him are always highly sought after by teams looking for a difference-maker on defense.
He is still learning the position after transitioning from safety. Overshown also needs to bulk up a little to cope with the rigors of professional NFL football, with missed tackles another element to consider when assessing the Longhorn.
