Third Round

Kyler Gordon – CB (Washington)

Drafting cornerbacks early has been something of a trend for the Vikings in recent years. It’s something they’ll think long and hard about next spring, too.

Patrick Peterson, Mackensie Alexander, and Bashaud Breeland are all out of contract in 2022 and it remains to be seen what their future holds. Cameron Dantzler has shown promise, but former first-round pick Jeff Gladney didn’t work out due to matters away from the field, and the Vikings might need additional reinforcements to the team’s secondary as a result.

Kyler Gordon is a prospect worth keeping a close eye on. His lateral movement and ability to go down the field smoothly with opposing wide receivers is encouraging, with the Washington stud emerging as the latest cornerback from the program that thrives in press coverage.

Another positive trait Gordan has going for him is athleticism. This allows the player to get himself out of trouble on occasions, but there is some work to do from a technical standpoint when he comes up against wideouts that will punish every mistake.

Gordon is also an elite special teams player, which the Vikings could use while he works his way onto the rotation. He is a big play waiting to happen as a gunner or in coverage, which will only boost his draft stock further.
