Vikings Draft 2022: Seven-round bye week mock draft
By Dean Jones
Fifth Round
Jarrett Patterson – IOL (Notre Dame)
The Vikings don’t have a fourth-round pick after acquiring Chris Herndon from the New York Jets, so it wouldn’t be the biggest shock in the world for Rick Spielman to make a move or two during the all-important draft weekend.
Minnesota’s starting offensive line unit has come on leaps and bounds this season and was nothing short of sensational in Week 6 at the Panthers. But the team’s depth could use some refinement rather than relying on veterans such as Rashod Hill.
There is every chance Wyatt Davis can develop into a starting-caliber player. Adding someone with the skill set of Jarrett Patterson could also be a smart call.
Patterson mans the center spot for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, but his stout frame could also be utilized at one of the guard positions with a smooth transition.
Although he wouldn’t be classed as the most dynamic protector in the world, Patterson is a powerful presence on the interior that is mobile enough to get to the second level and assist when required.
Garrett Bradbury is the undisputed starter right now and is doing a tremendous job. However, all it takes is one or two injuries on the line for things to unravel and Patterson can give the Vikings a ready-made replacement if problems arise.
