Sixth Round (Pick No. 2)

Joseph Ngata – WR (Clemson)

It appears as if the Vikings finally have a three-deep wide receiver group that can make plays at will. Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson remain the focal point, but the impact made by K.J. Osborn is yet another string to the offense’s bow that quarterback Kirk Cousins can use when needed.

No team can ever have enough pass-rushers or pass-catchers. Thielen is also heading into the twilight of his career and the Vikings need to form a contingency plan in case the home-state hero regresses considerably in the coming years.

Joseph Ngata is well worth taking a chance on at this stage of the draft. The Clemson wideout has supreme physical traits as a five-star recruit and although the sample size is relatively small, the flashes he’s shown are a solid foundation from which to build.

Ngata is fast enough to cause problems downfield, with his size and physical approach other attributes that will make NFL scouts sit up and take notice.

Expecting miracles from Ngata right away is unrealistic. His route-running needs developing and considering how imposing the player is from a physical standpoint, creating separation is an issue more often than not.

Fortunately, the Vikings don’t need him to be anything other than a project in 2022, which could be a good spot for Ngata to land.
