Derek Barnett, Philadelphia Eagles – Trade candidate

The situation surrounding Derek Barnett is an interesting one. When the Eagles changed their approach defensively, the new scheme didn’t quite fit too well with the former number 14 overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Barnett had 19.5 sacks in his first four years with the Eagles, but 2021 has seen him only register one sack and he has seemed out of place in the Eagles defense. Set to become a free agent after this season, Philadelphia would be best to get what they can for him before they let him walk.

Minnesota’s 4-3 scheme is a much better fit for the former University of Tennessee pass rusher and he could thrive in a Mike Zimmer defense. And at only 25 years old, Minnesota could help to bring out the best in him.

The only real question is what the Eagles would want for their former first-round pick. If the asking price isn’t too high, the Minnesota Vikings should do whatever they can to bring him to their team.
