Matt Corral (Ole Miss)

As of right now, Matt Corral is the top quarterback prospect for 2022. He entered this season as a bit of an outsider, but his rise to the top spot should not come as a massive shock. The arm talent and playmaking ability have always been there for Corral and now he is finally putting it all together.

While Corral is not some elite runner and speedster as a ball-carrier, he is very composed as a runner and has flashed his ability to make plays with his legs in and out of the pocket. He presents enough of a threat in the run game to keep defenses honest but is not afraid to let it fly when they give him the option.

The only real knocks on Corral are his size and overall arm strength, but those are not nearly as negative as once thought. His arm talent is clearly good enough to make plays in the SEC and that should carry over into the NFL as well. He can push the ball vertically and make some insane throws into tight windows.

Turnovers and decision-making were major question marks heading into the 2021 season, but Corral has cleaned those up as well. He will likely be the top quarterback in the 2022 NFL Draft when things are all said and done.

In terms of his fit with the Vikings, I would be very intrigued to see him under center in Minnesota. His legs extend plays enough to set up deep shots to Justin Jefferson, something that has been efficient but scarce lately. Corral is also not shy of attacking defenses and will take his fair share of risks.

Not all risky throws are going to play in Minnesota’s favor but it would be a welcomed change of pace from what we have seen from Kirk Cousins. He can also be a bit more of a threat in the run game to open things up for Dalvin Cook. He’s a long shot to land in Minnesota but Corral would be an electric addition to the offense.
