Which veteran quarterbacks could replace Kirk Cousins on the Minnesota Vikings?

Drafting a quarterback to be the face of the franchise has not worked for the Minnesota Vikings in recent years. The closest they came to such a feat was the selection of Teddy Bridgewater until he suffered his career-altering knee injury and has been a bit of a journeyman ever since.

The team opted to go with a proven veteran the last time they were in the hunt for their franchise gunslinger and they landed Kirk Cousins as a result. Cousins has had his ups and downs with the Vikings but a huge cap number and lack of success in the playoffs should force the front office to look elsewhere.

The 2022 NFL Draft does not feature a sure-fire prospect at quarterback, leaving Minnesota in a bind. They could take a chance on a developmental quarterback to compete with Kellen Mond but using two high selections on project quarterbacks is not the recipe for success.

If a change under center is coming next season, taking a swing on a veteran quarterback may be the best bet for the Vikings. Even if these veterans do not have what it takes to get the Vikings over the hump, they may help with landing a higher draft pick when they do not pan out.

To be honest, this is a very tricky situation for the Vikings. The weapons they have on offense should be enough to be a dangerous team in the NFC but Cousins and the defense have held them back this season. Spreading some of the money that is currently allocated to the quarterback and getting some pieces on the other side of the ball is in their best interest.
