Xavier Woods – S

Xavier Woods has been a pretty solid signing for the Vikings this season. The guy has been very steady all season long, not having many huge games, but also not standing out in a negative way at all either. That changed against Green Bay.

Woods was picked on by Aaron Rodgers and really struggled in coverage on Sunday. On a few of the Packers’ long gains, Woods was the man in coverage and he was beaten very badly.

It was worth wondering why Woods was being tasked with covering Davante Adams or Marquez Valdes-Scantling one-on-one, and it was obvious he was put in some very difficult situations.

The coverage issues could be blamed on poor scheming by Mike Zimmer and the defensive coaching staff, but Woods struggled in his own right. He took poor angles on plenty of tackles and whiffed when he should’ve come up and laid a big hit the way he has during most of the season.

Woods was a liability for Minnesota’s defense against Green Bay and they attacked him over and over. He has proven he is a better player than he showed last Sunday. Vikings fans will hope this game was just a mirage and not the start of a new trend.
