Is Minnesota starting to be TOO aggressive?

Mike Zimmer is adjusting well to being a more aggressive coach. He is making some tough decisions that would have a major impact on the outcome of the game. This game saw Zimmer make some of those decisions, with some of them being questionable.

The Vikings tried to convert three times on fourth down in this game. One of them came at the end of the game where there was no other decision to make, but the others came with Minnesota deep in 49ers territory where they could have put a field goal attempt up. Plus, they went for 2 instead of kicking an extra point while in the third quarter.

A conservative fan might say that seven points were left on the field. Of course, those decisions wouldn’t be questioned at all if the Minnesota offense could have converted them into touchdowns. However, in a game that would be this close, all decisions will be scrutinized.

Minnesota’s coaching staff will need to find a balance between being overly aggressive and not taking any chances. Or, the players need to do a better job of executing their opportunities to make these aggressive calls not be questioned at all.
