Greg Joseph – K

Greg Joseph overcame a rough start to this game, but this was another contest where his mistakes left points off the board.

The Vikings drove down the field on their opening drive, but it stalled out just inside Steelers territory. Mike Zimmer opted to attempt a long field goal, and Joseph’s kick wasn’t even close. The camera angle was a bit odd, but the kick looked like it went about a mile left, and it was nowhere close to splitting the uprights.

On his next attempt, Joseph missed the extra point try, this time pushing the ball to the right just a hair. Joseph’s misses have been frequent this season and the fact he forces the offense to chase those missed points always comes back and bites the team in the butt.

Minnesota is always in tightly contested games and simply can’t afford to leave points off the board. It cost them against the Lions and it nearly did the same versus the Steelers.

Joseph has one job to do and that is to make his kicks. Yes, some misses are expected, but the consistency in which he is missing his extra points is a bit concerning.

Overall, he’s probably been an upgrade over Dan Bailey from a season ago, but it wouldn’t be shocking if the Vikings brought in a new kicker for 2022.
