4 options the Vikings have with Kirk Cousins in 2022

Vikings stand pat with Kirk Cousins
Given all the speculation that’s bound to come over the next few weeks, the Vikings might decide to just stand pat with Cousins and absorb his $45 million in 2022. This would at least give them a stable presence under center if Mike Zimmer departs as head coach, but it would also restrict what the organization is able to do in free agency or extending current roster members.
Minnesota is already expected to be around $7.33 million over the cap next season. The window for winning with this group is almost at an end, so those in power could just roll with Cousins, hope things improve overall, and look for a potential replacement in 2023 if Kellen Mond doesn’t make a significant leap forward.
Cousins’ production is good enough to get by, at least for now. But if the Vikings want to be taken seriously as a Super Bowl contender, then an upgrade is needed.
