4 young quarterbacks the Vikings could trade for in 2022
By Adam Patrick
Tua Tagovailoa (Miami Dolphins)
- Age:
- 23-years-old
- 2021 Stats:
- 12 games
- 67.8 completion percentage
- 2,544 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, 10 interceptions
- 89.8 passer rating
- 90 rushing yards (2.4 ypc), 3 touchdowns
Like Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa‘s team was rumored to have an interest in acquiring Deshaun Watson during the last few months. Tagovailoa has barely been in the NFL and it feels like the Miami Dolphins have been giving up on him basically since he was drafted two years ago.
Unlike Hurts, most of Tagovailoa’s production out on the field comes from his arm. He hasn’t shown the ability to consistently put up large passing totals, but he’s had some stretches in his career where he’s put up some impressive numbers.
From Week 11 to Week 16 of the 2021 season, Tagovailoa appeared in five games and he completed 75.3 percent of his passes for 1,141 yards (228.2 per contest), eight touchdowns, and four interceptions to generate a 101.3 rating. And most importantly, the Dolphins came away with wins in all five of those games.
Tagovailoa still has the potential to develop into a top NFL quarterback, but he might just need to be someplace other than Miami for that to happen. So if the Dolphins end up continuing to look for someone else to be their starting quarterback during the upcoming offseason, the Vikings should get in contact with them to see what sort of trade package it would take to land Tagovailoa.
