Second-Round Pick:

Martin Emerson – CB (Mississippi State)

It seems cornerback is always a highly picked position of the Vikings in the draft and this year it is no exception. Minnesota signed veterans like Patrick Peterson and Mackensie Alexander to one-year deals and when the sun rises on the 2022 season, Cam Dantzler will be the old man of the group.

Behind him will be players like Kris Boyd and Harrison Hand, and the team can’t expect to win many games if that trio is topping their cornerback depth chart.

They will surely add some names in free agency, and possibly even bring Peterson back, but they also need to improve the talent on this roster. They could look to do that in round one, but if they wait until the second round to address the position, then Martin Emerson could be a guy they consider.

What is going to get scouts excited about Emerson first of all is his size. The dude is 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds. That’ll help him match up with just about any receiver he will lineup against.

While he may lack ideal recovery speed, he’s an extremely aggressive corner who isn’t afraid to come up and make a hit on a back. He is also quick to recognize plays and formations and does well fending off blocks.

Emerson is a guy who will likely go early on the NFL Draft’s second day, but he is also a player who has the potential to start as a rookie. He’d be a nice fit in Purple and would form a solid tandem with his fellow Bulldog, Cameron Dantzler.
