8 realistic candidates to be the next Vikings general manager
By Dean Jones
John Dorsey
There isn’t much that John Dorsey hasn’t seen during his NFL career. A long-standing figure within multiple front offices across the league, he is currently a senior personnel executive on the Detroit Lions and would jump at the chance of becoming Minnesota Vikings general manager should the opportunity arise.
Unlike most on this list, Dorsey has been a general manager before at both the Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns, with plenty of success. His reputation for unearthing diamonds via the draft is well documented, and if the Vikings are looking for someone that’s been there and done that, he should be on the shortlist.
Perhaps it might be better for the Vikings to go with a younger candidate on the up. However, this is still a team capable of winning now if the right combination comes in as general manager and head coach.
That could sway the decision in some respects. But it would be prudent for Minnesota to get a new general manager in at the earliest possible opportunity and allow him the freedom to select his own head coach.
Dorsey is a name to monitor. Whether that amounts to anything is another matter entirely.
