The bar isn’t super high in Minnesota

Every team has the goal of winning the Super Bowl at the end of every NFL season. Teams like the Vikings, who have never reached such feat, do not have the same bar of success as teams like the Patriots, Packers, and Chiefs.

While the goal is always to win championships, it would be a success if the Vikings made it beyond the Wild Card round of the playoffs, and every week after that is just added benefit. I’d be lying if I said I thought the Vikings were perennial contenders.

This isn’t to say that the Vikings should not try to win a Super Bowl or that the next general manager should not set out for that sort of goal. Instead, it is more of an enticing part of the deal for whoever takes over the role. There is a lot less pressure to reach the top of the top and that should allow them to take some extra risks while constructing the roster.

The comparison for the next regime is always going to be the Kirk Cousins-Mike Zimmer teams from the past four years. That would mean the goal is to simply be better than a team that made the playoffs once in four years, won just one game in that trip, and never won the NFC North.

They will have four seasons to do the bare minimum to please most of the fanbase, and that should be an enticing gig, especially considering how good the roster is right now offensively.
