Current Role:

  • Kansas City Chiefs quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator

Vikings fans have probably heard all about the potential of current Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy becoming the team’s next head coach. But people should be keeping an eye on Mike Kafka as a possibility as well.

Success in today’s NFL is largely determined by the performance of the quarterback and Kafka is someone who has helped develop Patrick Mahomes into arguably the best signal-caller in the entire league.

Kafka, a former quarterback who actually spent the 2015 preseason with Minnesota, has been Kansas City’s quarterbacks coach since 2018. Coincidentally, 2018 is the season when Mahomes burst onto the scene and really took the NFL by storm.

Obviously, Mahomes’ actual abilities have played a significant part in his success during the last few years. But Kafka has certainly helped the young quarterback keep his development heading in the right direction.

Kafka actually had some interest from the Eagles last year during their search for a new head coach. This might matter since the Vikings are reportedly going to interview two members of Philadelphia’s front office for their general manager job. If one of them is selected by Minnesota, perhaps they would revisit the possibility of hiring Kafka as a head coach.
