10 worst decisions by Rick Spielman during his Vikings tenure

Signing Mike Remmers in 2017
Building a successful offensive line was a constant struggle for Rick Spielman during his time with the Vikings and his decision to sign offensive tackle Mike Remmers in 2017 was pretty terrible.
After performing at a mediocre level in three seasons with the Carolina Panthers, Spielman and Minnesota thought Remmers was worthy of a five-year, $30 million contract. Unsurprisingly, he wasn’t.
Remmers was okay in his first season with the Vikings, but his performance significantly decreased in 2018 as he allowed seven sacks, and he was flagged for eight penalties. Following this disappointing performance, Minnesota decided to release him during the 2019 offseason.
Cutting Daniel Carlson in 2018
With their second pick in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Spielman and the Vikings decided to select former Auburn kicker, Daniel Carlson. Minnesota had struggled to find a reliable kicker during the previous few seasons and they were hoping that Carlson could solve that problem.
Unfortunately, the Vikings probably weren’t the right team for Carlson as the minuscule amount of patience that Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer had for kickers clearly had an impact on the rookie.
Carlson missed all three of his field-goal attempts in a Week 2 game that resulted in the Vikings and Green Bay Packers tying, and after this performance, Minnesota decided to cut the young kicker.
Shortly after he was let go by the Vikings, he was picked up by the Las Vegas Raiders. Carlson just finished his fourth season with the Raiders, and most recently, he signed a four-year extension with Las Vegas.
