According to multiple reports, DeMeco Ryans, Raheem Morris, Kevin O’Connell, and Jim Harbaugh are in the mix to be the next Minnesota Vikings head coach.
Almost a month removed from the firing of Mike Zimmer, the Minnesota Vikings will reportedly conduct second interviews with Raheem Morris, DeMeco Ryans, and Kevin O’Connell this week for their head coach opening according to multiple reports. However, Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh is still “in the mix” to become Minnesota’s next head coach according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Monday.
The Vikings are traveling to Los Angeles to meet with Morris and O’Connell on Monday according to the Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling. A second interview with Ryans will likely take place within the next few days as well.
As for Harbaugh, he reportedly interviewed with Minnesota on Saturday. Harbaugh reportedly “conveyed legitimate interest,” in the Vikings’ opening according to Fowler, and the meeting went “very well,” according to John U. Bacon, formerly of The Detroit News.
Is Jim Harbaugh the favorite to become the next head coach of the Minnesota Vikings?
After the rumor that came out on Sunday that suggested the Miami Dolphins are also in the running to hire Harbaugh, it’s difficult to predict where the Michigan head coach will end up. It’s definitely possible that it could come down to Harbaugh choosing between Minnesota and Miami.
As that process continues to play out, the Vikings are clearly not just going to sit around and wait. Morris, O’Connell, and Ryans are all good candidates and it wouldn’t be shocking if one of the three were hired to be Minnesota’s new head coach.
With the way things are shaping up, it would be a surprise if we get to the end of the week and the Vikings still don’t have a head coach. The search is getting serious and Minnesota finding a replacement for Zimmer is certainly getting closer to happening.
