Troy Walters, wide receiver (Bengals)
This one is a little different. Some Minnesota Vikings fans might remember Troy Walters when he was selected in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draft out of Stanford as a promising young wide receiver.
Walters’ time in Minnesota was uneventful for the offense. During his two seasons in Minnesota, he was targeted for one pass and caught it for a five-yard gain and ran the ball once for three yards, However, his contributions as a return man saw him return 26 punts for 286 yards and 48 kickoffs for 1,117 yards.
After spending time with the Colts, Cardinals, and Lions, Walters’ eight-year run as a player ended, but he wasn’t done in the NFL quite yet. He worked his way up from a coach at Indiana state to where he is now as the wide receivers coach for the Bengals.
Considering how amazing the receivers for Cincinnati are, it would be easy to say that Troy Walters has earned his chance at a Super Bowl ring. Time will tell if the Bengals will get him some jewelry for his work to make the team great.
Which former Minnesota Vikings players do you think will get a ring by winning the Super Bowl this year? And which ones will fall short and hope to achieve their goal next season? Let us know in the comments.
