Vikings must not get attached to veterans

Another way the Minnesota Vikings can avoid disaster this offseason is not getting too attached to veteran players who have been around the organization for a considerable period of time. A new regime dictates this might not be the case, but there could also be a temptation to keep influential figures on the books even if the smart money dictates to move in a different direction.

It’s also worth remembering that the Vikings are in some salary-cap difficulty and are currently $14 million in the red, according to Spotrac. This almost guarantees sacrifices need to be made and that could put some fan favorites on the chopping block when it’s all said and done.

The likes of Eric Kendricks and Danielle Hunter are two such examples.

Being without two prominent figures on defense seems almost inconceivable. But the NFL is a business and getting some draft capital in return could boost the team’s aspirations long term.

That might be a tough pill to swallow. Change is hard for any NFL fan and stability is something the Vikings have been blessed with more often than not throughout history.

Doing what’s best for the team is Minnesota’s ultimate objective. With Aaron Rodgers potentially leaving the Green Bay Packers, getting these decisions right is of paramount importance, and could see them seize control of the NFC North in 2022 if everything goes well.
