With the contract of Eric Bieniemy reportedly expiring with the Kansas City Chiefs, could he become part of the Minnesota Vikings new coaching staff?

Following the news that the Minnesota Vikings had decided to part ways with head coach Mike Zimmer back in January, it didn’t take long for people to throw current Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy into the conversation of possible Zimmer replacements.

However, the Vikings never even had a single interview with Bieniemy during their search for a new head coach. A search that ultimately resulted in Minnesota reportedly giving the job to Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell.

Despite passing on Bieniemy in their head coaching search, he could be someone the Vikings consider as their new offensive coordinator.

Could the Minnesota Vikings convince Eric Bieniemy to leave the Kansas City Chiefs?

Recently, it was revealed that Bieniemy’s contract with the Chiefs will be expiring at the end of the 2021 season according to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.

It’s very possible that he could just wind up returning to Kansas City, however, he might be interested in moving to another team that could potentially help him finally get a job as a head coach in the NFL one day.

There have been some rumblings about Minnesota having interest in a few candidates to be their new offensive coordinator under O’Connell. At the same time, we’re not even 100 percent sure that O’Connell won’t want to assume the offensive coordinator duties himself once he joins the Vikings.

If Minnesota does end up looking for a new offensive coordinator, Bieniemy should be someone to keep an eye on. Believe whatever you want about him calling plays or not for the Chiefs, but he’s clearly had an impact on the development of Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the overall success of their offense.

Bieniemy going to another team might also be a way for him to convince people that he can be successful without Andy Reid as his head coach. If he joins the Vikings and takes over play-calling duties for the offense, any sort of success he achieves could lead him to landing a head coaching gig in the NFL.
