Alexander Mattison – RB

Grade: B+

Alexander Mattison has proven to be one of the more solid picks of the Vikings’ 2019 class. Rick Spielman traded back time and time again, eventually using the last pick of the third round to land this bruising runner.

What makes this pick so good is that the Vikings landed a guy who has lived up to the role they envisioned for him. He was taken to be the backup to Dalvin Cook and to spell him from time to time. Mattison has done that extremely well, and when he’s on the field, he has kept the Vikings’ offense and running game humming.

Mattison hasn’t just done it on the ground. He has soft hands and has caught 55 passes in his Vikings career. He has rushed for 1,387 yards averaging just about 450 yards a season. The only complaint many have about Mattison is that maybe he doesn’t get enough touches.

He likely will look to become a starter somewhere after the season, but he’s lived up to the role the Vikings had in mind for him, and that gets him a solid grade.
