7 free-agent tight ends the Vikings could sign in 2022
By Clay Vasquez
David Njoku
2021 Team: Cleveland Browns
From one incredibly athletic tight end to another, David Njoku is an incredibly gifted athlete himself. Njoku was drafted in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, but he has never quite put up the first-round stats one would like to see.
It doesn’t quite help that Njoku’s quarterback situation has been rocky during his career, as his main pass thrower, Baker Mayfield, has had a turbulent career in the league.
Njoku is probably out of reach for the Vikings, as he is still young and filled with untapped potential, making his price more of a factor than the previously mentioned tight ends on this list.
But Minnesota does have something (or someone) that could help entice Njoku in new general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.
Adofo-Mensah just came over to the Vikings from the Browns organization, and with Njoku being a member of Cleveland himself, who’s to say that Minnesota’s new general manager won’t pursue the young tight end this offseason.
Njoku has had an interesting time with the Browns to start his career, as he has reportedly requested to be traded, while also saying that he loves the organization.
It is unknown whether he’ll stay or go, but having the connection to Njoku that the Vikings have could get their foot in the door for the talented tight end.
