Vikings reported to be ‘on the radar’ of Deshaun Watson
By Adam Carlson
A new report states that Deshaun Watson has been weighing his options and the Minnesota Vikings are among the teams being considered.
Just when it seemed like the drama was settling from worries about the head coach situation for the Minnesota Vikings another wrinkle has entered the conversation in the form of quarterback Deshaun Watson.
According to an article by Jeremy Fowler behind the ESPN+ paywall, the 26-year-old quarterback has been taking a look at a few destinations that could be appealing to him and the Vikings were included among the teams listed to be “on his radar.”
This is an interesting development in the Deshaun Watson sags because, despite any legal issues he may have, it still doesn’t seem like the Houston Texans are willing to move their star passer for anything less than a king’s ransom.
Is there a chance the Minnesota Vikings could be interested in Deshaun Watson?
Expect the Vikings to take a close look at the situation involving Watson and evaluate what it would take to acquire his services if this report is true. With Kirk Cousins still under contract for the 2022 NFL season, getting a starting-caliber quarterback isn’t a big need for Minnesota but getting a young, talented quarterback is something that must always be examined.
It would be surprising to see the Vikings and Texans make a blockbuster trade involving their quarterbacks unless they don’t see Kirk Cousins in their future plans and believe that Watson will be cleared of the charges against him in his current legal situation.
Considering Watson is standing firm in his innocence and not bargaining to speed up the legal process, it could be extremely difficult to give up a lot of draft capital if he may not be able to play during the 2022 season.
This report will likely continue to divide a fan base that seems to be split on whether or not Kirk Cousins can bring this team to a Super Bowl in the future. If the Minnesota Vikings are unsure he can do it, expect them to at least do due diligence on this report from Fowler.
