NFL Network’s Adam Rank recently shared a possible trade scenario involving Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray and Minnesota Vikings signal-caller Kirk Cousins.

This offseason, we could potentially see several trades around the NFL that involve starting quarterbacks. Among the signal-callers that could be on the move are Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings and Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals.

Most would probably agree that Cousins has a higher chance than Murray to be traded this year. But when it comes to the NFL offseason, nothing should come as a shock anymore, so the Cardinals dealing their starting quarterback to another team this year is something that still shouldn’t be ruled out.

Recently, NFL Network’s Adam Rank shared a list of five big-name players that should be traded this offseason and Murray was among those included. When it came to picking a destination for the Arizona quarterback, Rank suggested that trading him to the Vikings in exchange for Cousins could be a possibility.

Is trading Kirk Cousins to the Arizona Cardinals for Kyler Murray realistic for the Minnesota Vikings?

Let’s just get straight to the point. While it’s fun to think about Minnesota possibly acquiring an exciting, young quarterback in exchange for Cousins, any trade that swaps the two signal-callers seems incredibly unrealistic, at least at this point in time.

Could things change within the next few weeks? Sure, it’s possible. But this feels more like a fun idea that Rank had rattling around in his head rather than something he suggested based on anything he’s heard from people close to the Vikings the Cardinals.

Murray was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2019 and he’s earned a Pro Bowl selection in each of his last two seasons. Reports of some tension between him and Arizona popped up recently and it has resulted in him now being considered as a quarterback who could be on the move this year.

Minnesota has recently emphasized their commitment to Cousins while also stating that they will do whatever is best for the team moving forward. So the Vikings trading their quarterback this offseason isn’t something that can be ruled out yet either.

While Minnesota would gladly take Murray and the $5.5 million cap hit he is scheduled to have in 2022 if he is traded, they would likely have to send Cousins and multiple first-round draft picks to the Cardinals in exchange for the young quarterback.

For a team that has a number of large holes to fix on their roster, the Vikings giving up early-round draft picks in order to give up Cousins doesn’t seem like something they would do at this point in time.

So, for now, just view any trade between Minnesota and Arizona that involves Cousins and Murray as something that would only take place in “Madden”.
