Vikings accused of using NFL Media to spread Kirk Cousins narrative
By Adam Patrick
ESPN’s Courtney Cronin recently accused the Minnesota Vikings of using NFL Media to help spread the narrative surrounding their current thoughts about Kirk Cousins.
Currently, we are in the part of the NFL offseason where every report and rumor about anything has to be taken with a grain of salt. This includes anything having to do with the Minnesota Vikings and their starting quarterback, Kirk Cousins.
Despite the Vikings recently reminding the public that Cousins is still currently under contract with them, the quarterback’s future with the team is something that is still very much up in the air right now.
When it comes to Minnesota’s starting quarterback, NFL Media insiders like Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero have shared three reports in the last week that make it seem like Cousins will be sticking around with the Vikings for the 2022 season.
ESPN reporter accuses NFL Media of “carrying water” for the Minnesota Vikings
As we mentioned earlier, all of these reports must be taken with a grain of salt at this time of the year, especially since they could be influenced by a certain party that is attempting to make sure a specific narrative is portrayed to the public.
This is something that ESPN’s Courtney Cronin believes is happening when it comes to the recent NFL Media reports about Cousins.
On a recent episode of the Purple Insider podcast, Cronin said NFL Media is “absolutely carrying water for [the Vikings] in what they’re saying about Kirk Cousins.”
That’s quite the accusation by Cronin, but she’s been covering the NFL for a while now, so she knows how teams can use a number of different methods to establish their own narrative about a certain subject.
While Minnesota could truly be interested in keeping Cousins around for the 2022 season, Cronin recently reported that the quarterback could say no thanks to an extension during the next few months in order to force the team to choose between trading him or just having him play out the final season of his contract.
Vikings fans should already be used to having feelings of skepticism when it comes to what the team is saying in the public about the future of a certain player (see Stefon Diggs and Percy Harvin).
So even though there is a new regime in charge for Minnesota, fans should remain just skeptical, if not more, about what is being reported about Cousins or any of their other current players during the 2022 offseason.
