Let Anthony Barr hit free agency

Recently, new Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell spoke about how much he enjoys the play of Anthony Barr. This was an interesting comment since Barr is about to hit free agency unless the team decides to re-sign him.

Even though Barr has never played a game for another team in his career, it is time to part ways with him. He is still an athletic player who could help a franchise that might transition to a 3-4 defense, but unless he is willing to take a massive discount, it’s time to move on.

Barr is a four-time Pro Bowl player who possesses good size and speed. Sadly, he missed 20 games in the last two seasons and has never been able to rack up more than four sacks in any of his NFL seasons.

The Vikings need to let Barr hit free agency to see if there is a market out there for him. Bringing him back would be nice, but this Minnesota defense needs to get younger while saving salary cap where they can. Because of that, Anthony Barr shouldn’t be a top priority.
