Focus on defense in the draft

The Minnesota Vikings have a lot of talent on offense. They have one of the better quarterbacks in the league in Kirk Cousins, a dynamic rusher in Dalvin Cook, a touchdown machine in Adam Thielen, and an absolute star in Justin Jefferson. When you add in young players like Brian O’Neill and Christian Darrisaw on the offensive line and the potential of tight end Irv Smith Jr., the offense has a bright future.

Minnesota’s defense isn’t quite as stacked. They have several players who are older with big cap hits and quite a few holes to fill due to exiting players. At every level, it isn’t clear who the starters will be, especially if the new regime is looking to clean house. this offseason.

Expect this year’s draft class to be comprised of a lot of young defenders in the early-to-middle rounds. Deep positions like edge rushers and corners could be hit more than once as the team attempts to improve upon last year’s humiliating defense.

There is little doubt that the Vikings’ front office is likely already evaluating the current roster and their contracts to make the necessary changes needed to be competitive in 2022. And some of the biggest changes will likely come on the defensive side of the ball.
