Kirk Cousins getting traded in 2022 now seems much more likely
By Adam Patrick
With Aaron Rodgers deciding to stay with the Green Bay Packers, teams could now turn to the Minnesota Vikings to make a trade for Kirk Cousins.
When it comes to what lies ahead in the future for Kirk Cousins, a decision by Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Tuesday might have just created a big opportunity for the Minnesota Vikings to trade their current starting signal-caller.
Despite disputing reports of signing an extension with Green Bay on Tuesday, Rodgers did confirm that he will be returning to the Packers for the 2022 season. The Vikings are stuck facing the reigning NFL MVP for at least one more year.
In addition to Rodgers deciding to stay in Green Bay, the Seattle Seahawks reportedly made a gigantic trade that sent quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos on Tuesday. So now, both Rodgers and Wilson are off the market, meaning Cousins is likely the top quarterback left for teams to try to trade for this offseason.
Chances of the Minnesota Vikings trading Kirk Cousins seem to be much higher after the moves involving Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson
With Wilson and Rodgers no longer available, an argument can easily be made that Cousins is easily the best quarterback left on the market.
So for teams like the Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Washington Commanders that are all likely going to be looking for a new starting signal-caller this offseason, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if any of them made a call to Minnesota in the near future.
With free agency set to kick off on March 16, the Vikings would probably like to know if they are moving on from Cousins or not within the next week. So if a deal is completed that sends the veteran quarterback out of Minnesota, it could happen during the next few days.
Whether or not a trade actually happens, the chances of the Vikings dealing Cousins before the start of the 2022 season certainly increased after the moves involving Rodgers and Wilson on Tuesday.
