Cousins’ value will never be higher

There are several quarterback-thirsty teams in the NFL right now. With potential options getting slimmer with each passing day following a frenzied period of activity, the chances of Kirk Cousins being dealt for substantial draft capital is going to be contemplated by organizations that can afford to take on his bumper salary.

Desperate teams do desperate things. It is a tale as old as time across the league and something the Vikings might be able to take full advantage of where Cousins is concerned.

Would the Vikings be worse off without Cousins?

That would depend on what contingency plan is in place.

But all the drama that enveloped the signal-caller last season and another year falling to reach the playoffs should make Minnesota’s new decision-makers think twice about giving the veteran another season.

Looking at what Russell Wilson and Carson Wentz went for in trades this week, the Vikings could probably expect something in between for Cousins. Something that would free up salary-cap space and give them further options when it comes to the draft.

Cousins’ value will never be higher than it is right now. And there is a good chance Minnesota moves on entirely next year, in any case.

Strike while the iron is hot, as the old saying goes.
