Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins are expected to be major players in free agency and if the right trade comes along this offseason New head coach Mike McDaniel is moving forward with Tua Tagovailoa as the team’s starting quarterback, meaning it’s absolutely vital those in power strengthen the offensive line and get some quality playmakers around the former Alabama star before the 2022 campaign.

This will leave no more excuses for Tagovailoa, who enters a make-or-break season in Miami. Although there remains some hope that Myles Gaskin can turn things around and enjoy an injury-free year, there’s no doubt whatsoever Dalvin Cook represents a significant upgrade on anything the Dolphins currently possess on their running back depth chart.

Providing the Minnesota Vikings are willing to let one of their best offensive weapons go, which would be a major shock, then the Dolphins have the cap space and draft capital to make an enticing offer. Putting Cook alongside Tagovailoa in the backfield with the weapons they also have in the passing game should enable Miami to become a real force.

McDaniel comes from a San Francisco 49rs offense that relied heavily on the running game. Cook has already proven capable of shouldering a heavy burden, which would allow the Dolphins to focus their attention in free agency on acquiring some significant reinforcements across the protection.

Minnesota trading Cook seems like a last resort. But there is rarely smoke without fire.
