Kansas City Chiefs

Again, this would be akin to fantasy football rather than the real world. But the Kansas City Chiefs are now facing a titanic tussle to retain the AFC West after Khalil Mack was traded to the Los Angeles Chargers and quarterback Russell Watson waived his no-trade clause to join the Denver Broncos.

The Chiefs aren’t blessed with much in the way of cap space and need to clear just over $5 million to get under the current limit right now. However, if the organization got the opportunity to add a stud such as Dalvin Cook in the backfield, some financial gymnastics could be done to make this dream a reality.

Kansas City does possess Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who has potential even if injuries prevented him from making a big-time impression last season. But if Cook became available – however unlikely that might be – then it could be the difference between success and failure considering they are set to lose some key names on the defensive side of the football.

Adding Cook to an offense that consists of Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, and a phenomenal offensive line is a daunting proposition for other teams. Fun to think about, but it might end up being a non-starter unless the Minnesota Vikings receive an astronomical offer consisting of draft picks and players.

This could be just speculation. But don’t be surprised if former veterans other than Cook are traded between now and when training camp rolls around.
