Don’t commit to many restructures

Teams across the league are currently in the midst of restructuring contracts to get themselves either under the salary cap or to put themselves in a better position in the hope of attracting high-caliber free agents to their franchise. The Vikings should fall into this category sooner rather than later, but they would be wise not to over-commit when it comes to kicking money down the road.

Restructuring deals are all well and good, but the credit card bill will always arrive in the end. The New Orleans Saints are one prime example of this and it remains to be seen just how they are going to fare in the long-term as a result.

Fans may not like it and it could come with some complications in terms of recruitment this offseason. But the simple fact is Minnesota might not be in the best place to contend right now and playing the long game could reap more rewards now Aaron Rodgers is staying with the Green Bay Packers.

One or two will probably have their contracts altered, given the situation. However, jeopardizing all those extra resources this time next year wouldn’t be wise.
