Vikings Free Agency 2022: Arrivals, departures, and rumors from Day 3
By Adam Patrick
Departures – Day 2
Tyler Conklin – TE
- New Team: New York Jets
- Contract: 3 years, $21 million
After a breakout performance in 2021, Tyler Conklin went out and got himself a nice contract from the Jets. With the return of Irv Smith Jr. this year, the Vikings letting Conklin go elsewhere was something that always seemed pretty likely.
Due to their lack of salary cap space this offseason, Minnesota wasn’t going to be able to compete with the offer that Conklin got from New York. Which is fine, but his departure is just another reminder that some fan-favorite players are going to be moving on from the Vikings this year.
Mackensie Alexander – CB
Mackensie Alexander hasn’t signed with a new team yet, but KSTP’s Darren Wolfson indicated on Wednesday that Minnesota is not looking to re-sign the veteran cornerback this year.
This shouldn’t surprise anyone as Alexander was one of the worst corners in the NFL last season. In 16 games, he allowed five touchdowns, opposing quarterbacks had a passer rating of 119.2 when throwing his direction, and PFF graded him as the 116th-best cornerback in the league (out of 116).
