The Minnesota Vikings reworked the contract of star wide receiver Adam Thielen in order to have a little more salary cap space this season.
There might not be a player on the Minnesota Vikings roster who embodies a great work ethic and the state itself better than Adam Thielen. By now, every fan of the purple and gold have heard the story of his rise to fame, including his lack of recruitment and working his way from an undrafted free agent to the Pro Bowl.
With eight seasons in a Vikings jersey and nearly 6,000 receiving yards on his resume, Thielen has been one of the few players who are still on the roster and contributing in a major way. And now it appears as though he will be in Minnesota for several more years.
According to NFL.com, Thielen has agreed to a contract restructure with the Vikings that includes “$18 million in guaranteed money, a raise to $14.4 million in 2022 and a void year tacked on” The deal was initially shared by Tom Pelissero on Twitter.
With this extension, Thielen is under contract by Minnesota through the 2024 season. At the moment, he is 31 years old. With an August birthday, he will be 32 when the 2022 season rolls around. Despite being on the wrong side of 30, age shouldn’t be much of a factor for Adam Thielen. The star receiver has been a touchdown machine the last two seasons, scoring 24 touchdowns in his last 28 games played.
The restructure of Adam Thielen’s contract should be great news for the Minnesota Vikings and fans all around the world, who should be very excited to keep him and young star Justin Jefferson together to be the most dynamic wide receiver duo in the NFC North for many years to come.
