O.J. Howard, TE (1 yr, $3.5M – Bills)

It’s a bit sad to say farewell to tight end Tyler Conklin. He was a good blocker who was starting to develop a fantastic connection with quarterback Kirk Cousins while Irv Smith Jr. struggled to stay on the field.

Smith is once again penciled in to be the Minnesota Vikings’ starter this season, but now his backups will likely be blocking tight end Ben Ellefson and newly signed Johnny Mundt while they hope to develop Zach Davidson on the practice squad.

Having a more established option to back up Smith might have been a wise option. O.J Howard was with Tampa Bay for five seasons before taking a backseat to Rob Gronkowski when the boys from Boston came to town.

$3.5M is peanuts to pay for peace of mind when it comes to a tight end that can help move the ball down the field. Minnesota had better hope Mundt is ready despite only having only started three of his 47 games and never having caught a single touchdown.
