Former Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman recently interviewed with the Pittsburgh Steelers for their general manager vacancy.

For more than a decade, Rick Spielman was a member of the Minnesota Vikings front office. After parting ways with the Vikings in January, he’s still trying to find a new role in the NFL, and recently, he interviewed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Current Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert is set to retire after this year’s NFL Draft, so the team has been interviewing a number of candidates to replace him during the last few weeks.

Spielman, along with former New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese and former Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley, recently interviewed with Pittsburgh as possible replacements for Colbert.

Will former Minnesota Vikings GM Rick Spielman reunite with Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin?

Currently, Mike Tomlin is the head coach of the Steelers, and he’s had this role since the 2007 season.

Prior to getting hired by Pittsburgh, Tomlin was the defensive coordinator for Minnesota in 2006, the same year that Spielman was hired by the Vikings to be the team’s vice president of player personnel.

Spielman and Tomlin probably didn’t interact a ton during their lone season together in Minnesota. But they would certainly be meeting more frequently if Spielman is able to become the new Steelers general manager this year.

A few weeks ago, some believed that the former Vikings general manager was going to end up landing a role in the Jacksonville Jaguars front office. But that obviously never happened, so Spielman is clearly still trying to see if he can find a new job in the NFL before it becomes too late in the offseason.
