Danielle Hunter is a dynamic pass rusher and the Minnesota Vikings are interested in working out a deal to keep him in purple and gold.

The Minnesota Vikings are serious are having a strong pass rush in the upcoming seasons. They signed Za’Darius Smith to a three-year deal and are apparently ready to lock down another key player to get after opposing quarterbacks.

According to Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press on Twitter, new Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah spoke about the team’s future when it comes to Danielle Hunter and it seems like they want the defensive end around for a while.

Here is the tweet shared by Tomasson:

Why should the Minnesota Vikings want to extend Danielle Hunter?

Getting a long-term deal with Hunter done is likely a top priority for the Vikings as they attempt to prepare for the future. The combination of Hunter and Za’Darius Smith would be a huge threat to offensive lines around the league and help to create a defense that can slow down some of the highest-octane offenses in the league.

At only 27 years old, Hunter is in his prime and has shown an amazing blend of power and speed that has resulted in 35 sacks and 51 quarterback hits over the last 39 games while making back-to-back Pro Bowls in 2018 and 2019.

Finding a deal that works for the Vikings’ salary cap and also pleases Hunter would provide a foundation for a Minnesota defense that struggled mightily over the last couple of seasons to slow down their opponents.

It will be interesting to see if a long-term deal can be reached between the two parties. If they can, it would be a big move for a franchise starting over with a new head coach and general manager. Let’s hope something can get done.
