Following the decision by the Minnesota Vikings to fire Mike Zimmer, the team’s former head coach is reportedly “not in a great spot,” currently.

For the first time since 2013, Mike Zimmer is not spending the NFL offseason as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings. For almost a decade, Zimmer spent almost every day and night figuring out how to put the best possible Vikings team out on the field.

Earlier this year, however, Minnesota decided to move in a different direction, and they parted ways with their longtime head coach.

Even at 65-years-old, most assumed Zimmer would land a new coaching role with another team this offseason. But that hasn’t happened yet and it sounds like there’s a reason why.

Mike Zimmer reportedly “not in a great spot” after getting fired by the Minnesota Vikings

During an episode of SKOR North’s “Mackey & Judd”, KSTP’s Darren Wolfson shared some info about Zimmer and why we possibly haven’t seen the former Vikings head coach wind up with another coaching job yet.

"“He’s battling some stuff. I haven’t had direct contact with Mike, so this is a little bit second-handish. But him not landing anywhere, him sitting on the couch right now, [there’s a reason why]. Now he’s got those grandbabies that certainly help keep him sane, at least somewhat, but Mike is pretty beaten up.Without direct correspondence, I don’t want to use the word depression, but I’m just saying, I know from people that are friends with him, he’s not in a great spot right now.”"

As someone who devoted so much time and energy to being Minnesota’s head coach, this report about Zimmer, unfortunately, is not very surprising. He clearly was not ready to be done with the Vikings, but the team obviously made that decision for him.

Since he was fired by Minnesota, we haven’t heard anything from Zimmer other than the statement he released shortly after his departure. It’s been much different than former Vikings general manager Rick Spielman, who has spent the last few weeks making appearances on a number of radio shows, television programs, and podcasts.

It has seemed a little unusual that Zimmer has kept quiet after Minnesota let him go since he was known to say pretty much whatever was on his mind during his time with the team. But now we might know why he’s been silent.
