They won’t get into a bidding war

A lot of Vikings fans were upset after the first couple of days of free agency. They were seeing teams like the Jaguars, Bengals, and Dolphins toss out a ton of money to sexy free agents and being aggressive in improving their teams. Minnesota wasn’t making many moves at that time. Instead, they took a patient and more subtle approach.

One reason for that was the team simply hadn’t restructured enough contracts yet to find the money to sign players, but the other was that this new regime isn’t going to be one that will overspend or get into a bidding war.

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah addressed the media after a few days into free agency and flat out said the Vikings are here to win games and not bidding wars. That was something many fans needed to hear, as now, a week later, we see Minnesota did, in fact, get better while not breaking the bank and making themselves salary poor for the foreseeable future.

After two weeks into free agency, it’s safe to assume this new regime is one that will look for deals on the free-agent market and not pursue those big-ticket names on the market. They will not get into bidding wars, they clearly have a value on every free agent who is of interest, and they will stick to that number.
