They believe that coaching was the problem

This is probably the most apparent thing that we learned from the moves the Vikings’ new regime have made since free agency started.

They’ve brought back Kirk Cousins, Adam Thielen, Harrison Smith, and Danielle Hunter. In fact, the majority of Minnesota’s roster will be made up of players who were on the field during the last two disappointing seasons.

The coaching staff and front office had nothing but praise for the roster when they were introduced back in February. The fact that they’ve decided to keep many of the veterans through extensions or restructures instead of blowing the whole thing up shows they believe they can win with this current group of players but with someone else leading this team.

This does put a lot of pressure on first-time head coach Kevin O’Connell. He’s expected to compete in his first season as he learns how and what it takes to be the man in charge. It won’t be an easy task, but it is clear that Adofo-Mensah and the owners believe a change of philosophy on both sides of the ball and a culture overhaul will be enough to make this team competitive in 2022.
