Keep up to date with all of the picks and trades made by the Minnesota Vikings this year with our very own 2022 NFL Draft tracker.
For the first time since 2005, the Minnesota Vikings will be making selections in an NFL Draft without either Mike Zimmer or Rick Spielman as a member of the franchise.
With Kwesi Adofo-Mensah as the Vikings’ new general manager and Kevin O’Connell as the team’s new head coach, we should expect things to go much differently for Minnesota during this year’s NFL Draft.
Without Spielman trading for 57 seventh-round picks, Vikings fans might feel a bit lost this year. But, hopefully, Adofo-Mensah can help erase the memories of some of the most recent draft disappointments by adding several solid prospects to the team’s 2022 roster in his first-ever draft as Minnesota’s general manager.

What are compensatory picks in the NFL Draft?
To help teams make up for the loss of players in free agency, some are rewarded with compensatory draft picks.
If a player qualifies to be considered a compensatory free agent (a designation determined by a formula developed by the NFL), then a team can be rewarded with a draft selection if that player signs with another organization.
According to the league, “the value of the compensatory free agents gained or lost by each team is totaled, and a team is awarded picks of equal value to the net loss of compensatory free agents, up to a maximum of four.”

What are undrafted free agents and when can they be signed?
For the draft-eligible prospects that don’t end up getting picked this year, they will be classified as undrafted free agents. As soon as the final selection is made in this year’s NFL Draft, these undrafted free agents can negotiate and sign with any team in the league.
