A recent mock draft from Sports Illustrated’s Schuyler Callihan has the Minnesota Vikings selecting former Georgia defensive lineman Jordan Davis.
When it comes to who the Minnesota Vikings are going to select in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft, it’s very much still up in the air.
It seems like the top priority for the Vikings heading into this year’s draft should be finding a top-notch cornerback. But it’s difficult to determine what exactly Minnesota will do with their top pick at the end of April since this will be the team’s first NFL Draft with Kwesi Adofo-Mensah as their general manager.
It’s not only Adofo-Mensah’s first-ever draft as the Vikings general manager, but it’s also his first draft as a general manager for any team in the league. Minnesota fans will definitely be watching to see what approach Adofo-Mensah decides to take in the first round and with the rest of the team’s selections in this year’s NFL Draft as well.
Minnesota Vikings use top pick on former Georgia defender Jordan Davis in recent 2022 mock draft
Schuyler Callihan, who covers the Carolina Panthers for Sports Illustrated, recently shared his predictions for every pick in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
With the 12th selection in the draft’s opening round, Callihan has the Vikings using their pick on former Georgia defensive lineman Jordan Davis.
Davis was a standout defensive lineman for a Georgia team that won a National Championship last season. In 17 games during the 2021 campaign, he accumulated 32 tackles (five for a loss) and two sacks.
During this year’s NFL Scouting Combine a few weeks ago, Davis gained a bunch of attention when his 6-foot-6, 341-pound frame ran the 40-yard dash in an astounding 4.78 seconds.
Davis would be an interesting selection for Minnesota, especially since they’re not really in desperate need of another starting defensive tackle. The Vikings already have Dalvin Tomlinson, and they just signed Harrison Phillips in free agency, but maybe they could view Davis as the third guy to man the middle in their 3-4 front.
Adofo-Mensah selecting the former Georgia defensive lineman with Minnesota’s top pick in this year’s NFL Draft would certainly raise some eyebrows. But the Vikings might view Davis as a guy they can’t pass up if he’s still on the board when they get on the clock.
