It seems that the Minnesota Vikings do not have faith in Wyatt Davis to be their starting right guard for the 2022 season.

Wyatt Davis was a third-round selection by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2021 NFL Draft as they hoped to fix their ongoing hole along the offensive line. After doing absolutely nothing as a rookie, it appears that his career has unfolded rather quickly. As of right now, the Vikings have done nothing to indicate that he will be their starting right guard in Year 2.

Heading into his final season at Ohio State, Davis was viewed by many as a can’t-miss, first-round prospect that was going to anchor an NFL offensive line. While he was still pretty good in his final season with the Buckeyes, Davis slipped out of the first round of the draft and wound up being a late Day 2  selection.

The conversation surrounding Davis as a rookie was mostly suggesting that Mike Zimmer refused to play a rookie, which would be an incredible story if it made even a tad bit of sense. Zimmer was going into a season knowing that his future was on the line, so the idea that he would not play the best option possible is fascinating.

There was likely no vendetta against the front office for taking Davis or any other sort of sabotage going on that required the coaching staff to bench Davis. If we are going to be honest about the situation, the most logical conclusion is that Davis was simply not better than the competition.

As the NFL Draft approaches once again, the Vikings are firmly in the mix of teams looking to improve their offensive line once again. Davis might be able to earn his starting job this season, but we cannot pretend like he deserves that role. Let’s take a deeper look into his eventfully uneventful rookie season.
